About Dario

Dario Bauso is a Full Professor and Chair of Operations Research for Engineering Systems in the Jan C. Willems Center for Systems and Control at the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG), Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Groningen, since 2018. He concurrently holds a professorship at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria, University of Palermo, since 2005, and served as Guest Professor at Keio University from 2018 to 2019. Bauso obtained his Laurea degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 2000 and Ph.D. in Automatic Control and System Theory in 2004 from the University of Palermo. His career includes a position as Reader in Control and Systems Engineering at the University of Sheffield (2015-2018), Research Fellow at the University of Trento (2012-2014), and visiting scholar roles at UCLA (2001-2002), Lund University and MIT (2010), and Oxford and Imperial College London (2013).

Bauso's research focuses on optimization, optimal and distributed control, and game theory, addressing challenges in cascading failures in financial networks, coalitions of wind power producers with shared storage, consensus for virtual couplings in railways, and multi-period optimal bidding strategies with energy storage. Key publications include the book "Game Theory with Engineering Applications" (2016), "Cascading Failures in Financial Networks: Dynamics, Stability, and Control" (IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2026), "Coalition of Wind Power Producers with Shared Storage and Arbitrage Opportunities" (Dynamic Games and Applications, 2025), "Positive Switching Systems and the Wealth Distribution Problem" (Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 2025), and "A Stochastic Model for Cascading Failures in Financial Networks" (IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems, 2023). He has significantly influenced the field through editorial contributions, including as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control (2012-2017), IFAC Automatica (2015-2021), IEEE Control Systems Letters (2017-2021), and Dynamic Games and Applications (2011-2023), and as a member of the IEEE Control Systems Society Conference Editorial Board (2010-2018). Additionally, he served as General Chair of the 6th Spain, Italy, and Netherlands Meeting on Game Theory (SING6).
