Daniel Robinson earned his B.S. in Art from Radford University, M.F.A. in Studio Art from James Madison University in 2008, and Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Assessment from James Madison University in 2014. He has taught undergraduate courses in the School of Art, Design and Art History, courses in the interdisciplinary M.F.A. program, and General Education courses at James Madison University. Robinson serves as Director and Academic Unit Head of the Adult Degree Program in the School of Professional and Continuing Education. He has also held positions as Interim Director of the Lifelong Learning Institute, Director of the Institute for Creative Inquiry, and Associate Director of the Institute for Visual Studies from 2015 to 2021. His administrative experience includes leadership in teaching, learning, administration, and fundraising through grants.
As an artist, Robinson's work includes the inkjet print 'John' (2019, 16 x 20 inches) featured in JMU Photography presentations and participation in the exhibition 'In Common' with Jason Anderson and Jennifer Mace at the New Image Gallery in 2017. His photography contributed to 'Picturing Harrisonburg: Visions of a Shenandoah Valley City since 1828,' published in association with the Institute for Visual Studies at James Madison University and the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society. Robinson has led workshops such as photography sessions for students with refugee backgrounds in collaboration with Church World Service Harrisonburg and JMU's School of Media Arts and Design, and taught experimental courses like 3D Printing for the Arts. The Institute for Creative Inquiry received a $30,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in 2021 during his tenure. He authored 'Navigating AI's Role in Modern Education: Preserving the Core of Human Interaction' in 2024 and appeared in Episode 2 of 'Centering the Arts.' Robinson contributes to university committees including the Provost's Commencement Committee, Engagement Advisory Groups, Joint Faculty Senate/Provost Shared Governance Implementation Group, and Academic Excellence Committee.
