About Danica

Danica Rose holds the position of Chair of Learning Specialists within Access and Disability Resources (ADR) at MacEwan University. She leads the Learning Specialist team, which is dedicated to providing students with disabilities the support and tools they need to succeed academically. The ADR department arranges accommodations and services to remove barriers from the learning environment for a range of conditions, including mobility issues, sensory impairments such as hearing or vision loss, learning disabilities like dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia, communication difficulties, ADHD, neurological conditions, psychiatric conditions such as generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder, chronic health conditions, and temporary health conditions or injuries like a broken arm. Learning specialists, under her oversight, meet with students who have or suspect they may have a disability or face medical challenges impacting their learning.

On April 22, 2022, Danica Rose and Tim Tang, Associate Vice President of Student Services, addressed the Arts and Science Faculty Council about ADR services. They explained that ADR identifies and removes barriers to full student participation in education and acts as a conduit between students and the institution. They reported a 10% annual increase in students requesting accommodation services over the past five years, along with more students presenting complex conditions and multiple diagnoses. On May 26, 2023, Danica Rose participated as a panelist in the Diversity and Inclusion panel from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the Creating Connections 2023 Program, Embracing Change in Teaching and Scholarship, held at the Feigel Conference Centre, alongside Kalyani Thurairajah, Brittany Johnson, and Monica Davis. In 2022, she served as the contact point for questions regarding a Learning Specialist position opening, demonstrating her involvement in team recruitment and development to enhance accessibility initiatives.
