She manages the university’s security systems daily and has nearly 17 years of service in the Proctor’s Office and Campus Watch, including two years in her current leadership role. King excels in CCTV investigations, employing tenacity and persistence to track and identify offenders in cases involving sexual assaults, robberies, and burglaries. Her expertise has played a key role in reducing harm and enhancing campus safety. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she provided outstanding service by manually configuring access controls for staff, students, and contractors, often working overtime and weekends on short notice while delivering impeccable results under pressure.
In 2018, Danella King demonstrated her profound knowledge of the CCTV network by reviewing footage to pinpoint the location where a robber hid a weapon after an attempted dairy robbery, enabling its recovery. Her contributions earned her the Award for Exceptional Performance by Professional Staff in 2023, with a nominator describing her as 'an absolute guru when it comes to CCTV investigations.' King’s work has had a significant impact on maintaining a safe environment at the University of Otago.
