Dana Massengale is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the School of Natural Resources at the University of Missouri-Columbia, part of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. Her designated area of expertise is Sport Management within the Parks, Recreation, Sport and Tourism program. She earned her Ph.D. in 2008, M.S. in 2002, and B.S. in 1993, all from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Massengale's doctoral dissertation, completed in 2009 and titled "The Underrepresentation of women in interscholastic sport administration: A qualitative study on the effects of role incongruity," examines gender-related challenges in sports administration through qualitative methods. This work contributes to understanding barriers faced by women in interscholastic athletic leadership roles.
In her current appointment, Massengale teaches key undergraduate courses including PRT 2080: Global Sport Environments, which explores international dimensions of sports, and PRT 4385: Legal Aspects of Sport, covering legal frameworks pertinent to the sports industry. Designated as a graduate mentor, she is currently accepting new graduate advisees in the School of Natural Resources. Massengale was honored in 2025 as one of seven recipients of the CAFNR Driver to Distinction Award, recognizing outstanding staff contributions. She serves as a 2025 representative on the CAFNR Staff Council, supporting faculty and staff initiatives. Additionally, she collaborates on programmatic efforts such as adjunct instructor recruitment for Parks, Recreation, Sport and Tourism courses and engages with student groups focused on careers in sports.
