Dr. Clayton Roan is an Associate Professor of Practice in Mathematical Sciences at the University of Indianapolis. He holds a PhD in Educational Administration from Indiana State University, an EdS in Educational Administration from Eastern Illinois University, an MA in Mathematics Education from Eastern Illinois University, and a BA in Mathematics with Secondary Education from Eastern Illinois University. These degrees reflect his strong foundation in both mathematics education and educational leadership. Prior to his current position, Roan accumulated extensive teaching experience, including four years teaching mathematics at Cumberland Middle and High Schools, twelve years at Eastern Illinois University, and one year at Ball State University. This diverse career trajectory across secondary and postsecondary institutions has equipped him with practical insights into mathematics instruction at various levels.
Roan's areas of expertise include mathematics education, undergraduate mathematics teaching, educational administration, and mathematics curriculum development. His research interests focus on mathematics curriculum and instructional techniques, educational administration, and college mathematics remediation. A key publication is his 2012 doctoral dissertation, 'A Comparison of Elementary Mathematics Achievement in Everyday Math and Saxon Math Schools in Illinois,' completed at Indiana State University. At the University of Indianapolis, he has contributed to departmental initiatives, such as organizing the Indiana State Math Contest in 2018 to celebrate student mathematical talents, foster community engagement, and introduce prospective students to campus and career opportunities in mathematical sciences. Roan values the small class sizes and close-knit community at UIndy, which facilitate meaningful interactions with students and faculty across disciplines.
