About Chinedu
Dr Chinedu Agwu is a Lecturer (Education) in Biosciences at Brunel Medical School, Brunel University London. She holds a PhD in Biology, Medicine and Health from the University of Manchester awarded in 2019, an MSc in Reproductive Science and Women’s Health from University College London completed in 2016, and a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science from Newcastle University obtained in 2015. She is a Fellow of Advance HE, having achieved this status in 2024, and received the President’s Doctoral Scholar Award during her doctoral studies. Prior to joining Brunel, Dr Agwu served as a Teaching Fellow in Biosciences at Hertfordshire University and as an Associate Medical Writer at Envision Pharma Ltd.
Her research specializations centre on reproductive science and women’s health, with additional focus on student experience and equality, diversity and inclusion in medical education. Dr Agwu leads the Reproduction, Growth and Ageing module and acts as a Team-Based Learning facilitator for Year 1 and Year 2 medical students at Brunel Medical School. She also serves as Academic Lead for Widening Participation, admissions tutor, academic coach, and Multiple Mini Interview assessor. Key publications include the 2025 paper on the acute effect of statins on vascular reactivity in maternal and placental arteries from pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia, the 2019 article on curcumin as a novel treatment in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, and the study on decidual macrophages as key regulators of vascular remodelling in human pregnancy. Dr Agwu founded BioSci Toolkit CIC to promote bioscience education access among underrepresented communities and contributes to outreach and enrichment programmes in the field.
