Cheryl L. Buff is Professor of Marketing in the School of Business at Siena University, formerly Siena College. She holds a Ph.D. in Administrative and Engineering Systems from Union College of Union University, an M.B.A. in Marketing from Adelphi University, and a B.A. in Psychology from Siena College. Buff's academic career at Siena spans more than two decades, starting as a Lecturer in Marketing in 2000. She advanced to Assistant Professor of Marketing and Management (2001–2007), Associate Professor (2007–2013), and full Professor since 2013. Administratively, she served as Director of the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (2012–2015), Associate Dean of the School of Business (2014–2019 and 2020–2022), and Interim Dean (2019–2020). Prior roles include Visiting Assistant Professor at University at Albany, SUNY (2000–2001), Lecturer at The College of Saint Rose (1999), and various industry positions such as Supervisor of Office Automation at Coopers & Lybrand (1986–1990).
Buff's research focuses on social media, self-control and fear of missing out, work ethic and work-life balance, brand strategies, and pedagogy. Her publications include 'Fear of Missing Out: Understanding Construct and Measures' (2018), 'Bundles=Discount? Revisiting Complex Theories of Bundle Effects' (2007), 'Generational Work Ethic Differences: from Baby Boomers to Gen Z' (2023), 'The Baby Boomer-Gen Z Work Ethic Divide' (2022), 'COVID-19 GENERATION: REVISITING THE CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK OF THE CONSUMER BEHAVIORAL SHIFTS' (2023), and 'Undergraduate Research as a Fate Accompli: Innovation and Evolution of a Student Conference in Business' (2016), among others exploring consumer behavior, counterfeits, and entrepreneurial propensity. She has received the Best Paper Award from the Academy of Business Research Conference (2025), Professor of the Year from Theta Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi (2025), Fr. Matthew T. Conlin, O.F.M. Distinguished Service Award from Siena College (2019), Outstanding Research Paper Award from IABE (2017), Jerome Walton Excellence in Teaching Award (2010), and Hormel Meritorious Teaching Award (2009). Buff coordinates student conferences and mentors undergraduate research, contributing to pedagogical innovation.
