Dr. Chandana Kulasuriya is a civil engineer and academic affiliated with Curtin University, where he earned his PhD in Civil Engineering. He also holds an MEng in Structural Engineering and a BSc Eng (Hons) from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Professionally qualified as a Chartered Engineer (CEng, IESL), CPEng (IEAust), and International Professional Engineer (IntPE, IEA via IESL), Kulasuriya has served in key roles at Curtin University institutions. These include Senior Lecturer (Higher Grade) and Program Coordinator for Engineering at Curtin Colombo Campus, Sessional Lecturer and Research Scholar in the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at Curtin University Perth, and Visiting Research Fellow at Curtin University.
His research centers on sustainable construction materials, particularly the development of Alkali Pozzolan Cement (APC) as a low-carbon alternative to ordinary Portland cement, alongside integral sustainability frameworks, structural aesthetics, and interdisciplinary applications of engineering philosophy. Key publications include "Design and development of Alkali Pozzolan Cement (APC)" in Construction and Building Materials (2014), "Performance-based energy, ecological and financial costs of a sustainable alternative cement" in Journal of Cleaner Production (2021), "Mechanical and Microstructural Properties of Alkali Pozzolan Cement (APC)" in International Journal of Civil Engineering (2020), "Durability properties of alkali pozzolan cement (APC)" in Journal of the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka (2019), and "Integral sustainability of alkali pozzolan cement: An integral theory application in civil engineering" in Journal of Integral Theory & Practice (2014). Earlier works cover "The aesthetics of proportion in structural form" in The Structural Engineer (2002) and "Aesthetics in Structures" in Engineer: Journal of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (2006). Kulasuriya has presented at conferences such as the Australasian Structural Engineering Conference (2012), Integral Theory Conferences (2013, 2015), and Concrete Institute of Australia’s Biennial National Conference (2013), and delivered seminars at Curtin University on aesthetics in steel structures and sustainable buildings.
