Cathy Highton-Sim serves as Lead Administrator for Student Administration in the Academic Division at the University of Otago. She is a member of the Student Experience leadership team, which oversees vital administrative functions supporting student academic progress and success. These functions include processing admissions for general undergraduate and international students, managing course enrolments, conducting examinations, maintaining student records, handling doctoral and master's programme enquiries, administering scholarships, prizes, awards, and postgraduate publishing bursaries, and enforcing academic integrity through processes for academic misconduct and tools such as Safe Assign. The team ensures adherence to university policies like the Academic Progress Policy, providing comprehensive support to students and academic staff across the institution.
Cathy Highton-Sim earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in German Language and Literature and Music from the University of Otago, completed between 2008 and 2011. She further obtained a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education focusing on German and English from the University of Otago College of Education in 2012. Complementing her administrative career, Cathy is an active soprano performer who has appeared as a soloist with City Choir Dunedin and Southern Sinfonia on multiple occasions. She has participated in Opera Otago productions, including singing in the chamber opera 'The Trapeze Artists' (op. 73) presented at the Dunedin Fringe Festival alongside Tess Romano and Kieran Kelly. Cathy spent five years studying and teaching music in the United Kingdom and Germany.
