Catherine Barriga serves as Head of Information Management in the Information Technology Services division at the University of Otago. Her academic qualifications, as recorded in the University of Otago Calendars from 2021 to 2023, include a Bachelor of Arts with Honours (BA(Hons)) from the University of Derby, a Master of Information Studies (MIS) from Victoria University of Wellington, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (PGDipBusAdmin) from the University of Otago. Originally from Peru, she lived in England and gained experience in government departments. Barriga joined the University of Otago in 2008 as a library assistant and has since worked there for over 15 years in various roles and departments. In 2022, she was an audit and risk officer, assisting departments with managing operational risks through processes, procedures, and frameworks to prevent future issues.
In her current leadership position, Catherine Barriga directs a small team, including an Information Architect and Information Management Advisers, to support the university's information management responsibilities as a public office, encompassing inactive records management. During her MIS program, she completed a research project on 'Young adults in public libraries' and presented it to LIANZA in 2014. She chairs the Information Management Governance Committee at the University of Otago, promotes an inclusive work environment, and is a member of TechWomen NZ. In 2023, she used social impact leave to raise $1,115.10 for Life Matters.
