Cat Kamrath Monson is an Assistant Professor and Dance Area Coordinator in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Wyoming, joining the faculty in 2019. Her academic background includes a B.A. in Dance from Loyola Marymount University in 2013 and an M.F.A. in Modern Dance from the University of Utah in 2016. She holds certifications as a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst from Integrated Movement Studies in 2015 and as a Registered Somatic Movement and Dance Educator from the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association in 2017. As a dance artist whose career spans California, Utah, and Wyoming, she serves as Artistic Director of Cat + Fish Dances and joined the teaching faculty of Integrated Movement Studies for their Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis certification program in 2019. Her creative works as an independent artist, company director, and university faculty member have been presented in California, Utah, Nevada, and Wyoming.
Kamrath Monson's research focuses on pedagogical practices, with presentations at multiple conferences and publications in the Dance Studies Association. She specializes in modern dance and jazz techniques, dance pedagogy, somatic practices, dance history, composition, and mentoring dance science research projects. At the University of Wyoming, she choreographs annually for department productions, including musicals, new contemporary modern works, and historical reconstructions such as contributions to productions like 'Radical Humanity' in 2024 and 'Carrie the Musical' in 2023. Her contributions extend to directing and choreographing contemporary dance works alongside colleagues and students, enhancing the department's offerings in theatre and dance.
