About Caitlin
Dr. Caitlin Liddelow is a Lecturer in the Department of Sport Science, Exercise and Health, School of Human Sciences, Faculty of Science at the University of Western Australia. She completed her PhD in health psychology at Curtin University in 2021, following a Bachelor's degree with first-class Honours in Psychology from the same university in 2017. From 2021 to 2024, she was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the School of Psychology at the University of Wollongong, where she led a national Australian Research Council (ARC) project developing mental health guidelines for community sport and served as Program Coordinator for the Ahead of the Game mental health promotion initiative targeted at young men.
Liddelow's research specializations include mental health and well-being in sport, women’s health—particularly in sport, physical activity, and body image—and the application of psychological theories to predict and promote health behaviours, such as medication adherence and sport participation. Her key publications encompass "Domain-specific physical activity and mental health: an updated systematic review and multilevel meta-analysis in a combined sample of 3.3 million people" (British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2026), "Bouncing back with bliss: nurturing body image and embracing intuitive eating in the postpartum" (Journal of Reproductive and Infant Psychology, 2026), "“The Pressure to Do It All”: Qualitatively Exploring Body Image, Eating Attitudes and Mental Health in Postpartum Women" (Health Promotion Journal of Australia, 2026), "The psychological landscape of elite rugby league: a scoping review" (International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, 2026), and "A simple experiment to improve adherence for taking the oral contraceptive pill" (British Journal of Health Psychology, 2025). In October 2025, she was awarded the University of Western Australia School of Human Sciences Early-Career Research Award. Additionally, she serves as President of the Australasian Society for Behavioural Health and Medicine (2024–2026), having previously held positions as Secretary (2020–2022) and Peers Connect Representative (2019–2022). Through her leadership in research and professional organizations, Liddelow contributes significantly to advancing mental health strategies in sport and health behaviour interventions.
