Dr. Caddie Gao is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Human-Centred Computing within the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Information Systems from the University of Queensland awarded in 2010, a Master of Philosophy in Business Information Systems from City University of Hong Kong in 2005, a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Business Information Systems from City University of Hong Kong in 2003, and a Graduate Certificate of Higher Education from Monash University in 2012. As a decision scientist working at the intersection of business and information systems, Dr. Gao examines decision support technologies and their impact on addressing organisational challenges. Her research applies behavioural economics to understand human decision-making processes, and she designs, develops, and evaluates business analytics and intelligence systems to support and improve decision outcomes. She also devises behavioural interventions to change human behaviour in a predictable manner to enhance decision-making. Her research methodologies include design science, as well as qualitative and quantitative methods. Research specializations include behavioural economics, decision theory, decision support systems, business intelligence, business analytics, business process management, risk management, and financial information systems.
Dr. Gao has extensive experience as Chief Examiner and Lecturer for units in the Faculty of Information Technology, including FIT5160 Business process modelling, design and simulation, FIT5159 IT for financial decisions, FIT5094 IT for management decision making, FIT5123 Introduction to business information systems, and FIT5092 Electronic business. She has produced 51 research outputs, with key publications such as 'Sharpening clinical decision support alert and reminder designs with MINDSPACE: A systematic review' (International Journal of Medical Informatics, 2024), 'Digital transformation in the construction industry: Applying a Knowledge Management System lens' (Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2024), 'An Experiment on Nudging Clinicians’ Diagnostic Test-Ordering Decision-Making' (Pre-ICIS SIGDSA Symposium, 2024), and 'A study of the contextual factors influencing emergency department clinician’s diagnostic test ordering decision making' (Australasian Conference on Information Systems, 2022). In 2016, she received the Best Knowledge Management Paper Award. Dr. Gao co-chaired the Early Career Researcher Committee in the Faculty of Information Technology from 2011 to 2012. She leads projects including 'Nudge CDSS: Nudging clinicians to reduce unnecessary medical test ordering' (2022-2023) and 'Towards Value-Based Digital Health Transformation in Indonesia' (2025-2026). Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
