His research specializations encompass development of metal matrix composites, corrosion and wear studies, advanced joining techniques, waste-to-resource metallurgical processes, engineering materials, manufacturing processes, aluminium alloys and recycling, dross recycling, surface engineering, nano-coatings, and sustainable manufacturing technologies. Dr. Bhagyanathan has published over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, including 'Aluminium scrap recycling in a production furnace: Minimizing dross formation for sustainable and efficient recovery' (Materials Today: Proceedings, 2023), 'Recycling of LM25 aluminum alloy scraps' (Materials Testing, 2018), 'Enhancing the strength and structure of Al–Si alloys for biomedical applications through the addition of Sr and Zr grain refiners on secondary AlSi7Mg aluminum alloys' (Chemical Physics Impact, 2024), 'Investigation of zirconium coating by sol–gel processes on A216 steel' (The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2018), and 'Tribology and hardness measurement of biosilica dispersed AA7075 metal matrix composites' (Materials Today: Proceedings, 2023). He has led funded research projects totaling approximately ₹6 crores from agencies such as DST, Ministry of Mines, DRDO, AICTE, and CSIR, including AI-based systems for aluminium scrap sorting, hybrid pyro-hydrometallurgical methods for extracting alumina and copper from dross, and Fe-reduction strategies for secondary aluminium alloy producers. He holds nine patent filings, with three granted, and has supervised four Ph.D. scholars. As an invited speaker at national programs by DST-WMT, JNARDDC, and VNIT, he has conducted workshops and seminars funded by CSIR and DRDO. He provides consultancy to industrial organizations on recycling process optimization, dross heat utilization, alloy enhancement, and defect reduction. He is a life member of the Indian Welding Society (since 2012) and Life Member of LISTE (since 2009).
