Bruce Lu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering within the School of Physics, Mathematics and Computing at The University of Western Australia. He earned his PhD from Zhejiang University in 2016. Following his doctoral studies, he served as a Research Fellow at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore for more than two years before joining UWA. His research focuses on artificial intelligence and visual data computing, with particular expertise in 3D spatial AI, 3D geometry, data science, digital health, medical devices, and energy applications. Lu has authored over 120 research publications, more than half in top-tier venues such as IEEE TPAMI, TVCG, TIP, TNNLS, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI, NeurIPS, IJCAI, and ACM MM. His work has garnered over 4,000 citations with an h-index of 35 according to Google Scholar. He has secured more than $1.5 million in research funding from sources including ARC Discovery Projects, ARC Research Hub Projects, industry partners, and state government grants.

Lu's contributions to the field are recognized through several awards, including the School’s Mid-Career Research Award and Commendation Award for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in 2025, Early-Career Research Award in 2022, Outstanding Area Chair at ACM MM 2025, Best Paper Honourable Mention at CVM 2025, and Best Paper Award at DICTA 2024. He serves as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Multimedia and IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems. Additionally, he has held significant roles such as Program Chair for CASA 2024 and ICVR 2023–2025, Area Chair for CVPR, NeurIPS, ICLR, WACV, ACM MM, and ICME, Program Chair International for the Master of Information Technology at UWA, and Member of the UWA Academic Board from 2026 to 2028.
