Dr. Bridget Lyons serves as Professor of Finance, Finance Department Chair, and Undergraduate Finance Program Director in the Jack Welch College of Business and Technology at Sacred Heart University. She earned her B.A. in Economics from Georgetown University, graduating magna cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Following roles as a financial analyst and commercial banker, she obtained an M.S. in Finance from Columbia Business School and a Doctorate of Professional Studies with a concentration in Finance from Pace University Lubin School of Business, where she was awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Student recognition. With over twenty years of professional experience in corporate finance, credit, and valuation, Lyons blends theoretical knowledge with practical application in her courses on financial management, corporate finance, and valuation for both undergraduate and graduate students. She advises students on internships in finance and business economics, promoting the use of technology, financial modeling, and activity-based learning techniques. Additionally, she owns Bridget Lyons Consulting, established in 1995, and delivers consulting and training to the World Bank Group, investment banks, and hedge funds. Lyons is a Board member of the National Business & Economics Society.
Her research focuses on corporate finance, performance metrics, financial modeling, and competitive advantage. Lyons has authored numerous publications in academic and professional journals, including highly cited works such as "The Balanced Scorecard at Philips Electronics" (2002, with A. Gumbus), "A Three Year Journey to Organizational and Financial Health Using the Balanced Scorecard: A Case Study at a Yale New Haven Health System Hospital" (2003, with A. Gumbus and D.E. Bellhouse), and "Workplace Harassment: The Social Costs of Bullying" (2011, with A. Gumbus). Recent contributions address contemporary issues like "The Ups and Downs of SPACs" (2022, with B.M. Tarasovich), "The New Accounting for Operating Leases: Unintended Consequences in the Airline Industry" (2022, with R. Bandeira, C. Trabuco), and "Analyzing Performance Under ASC 842" (2020, with M. Gorman and B.M. Tarasovich). She has presented her work at national and regional conferences, including the Financial Management Association, Eastern Finance Association, Financial Education Association, and Eastern Economic Association. Lyons has received prestigious awards, such as the 60th Anniversary Curtis Medal (2024), The Final Four: Outstanding Faculty Award (2021), Sacred Heart University Teaching Excellence Award (2006), and the Innovative Paper of Excellence Award from National Business Press (2007).
