Brenda Tyre is an accomplished educator and leader in the field of business education at Valley City State University (VCSU). As the Chair of the Department of Business and an Associate Professor of Business, she guides the department's academic programs, including majors and concentrations in business administration, human resources, and management. Having served the university for 15 years as of 2023, Tyre has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to fostering practical skills and real-world application in her students. In 2019, she was honored with tenure and promotion to assistant professor of business at the annual Employee Recognition Dinner, highlighting her excellence in teaching and service. By 2020, she advanced to the role of Faculty Senate President, advocating for faculty and contributing to university governance.
Tyre's career at VCSU has been marked by innovative initiatives that bridge academia and the community. She serves as the key contact for the VCSU business incubator, which secured economic diversification research funds from the state in January 2024 to promote entrepreneurship and local economic growth. A champion of experiential learning, Tyre organizes the university's VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) tax preparation clinics. These clinics, held multiple times throughout early 2024, offer free tax services to Valley City residents and hands-on training for VCSU students and faculty. As she noted, “These clinics offer a service for our community and provide students and faculty the chance to work together as a team.” In the classroom, students regularly engage with her on practical projects, such as spreadsheet analysis in business courses, preparing them for professional success. Through her leadership, Tyre enhances the impact of the Business Department on both students and the broader region.
