Professor Branka Vucetic holds the Peter Nicol Russell Chair in Telecommunications and is an ARC Laureate Fellow in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney. She earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Belgrade. Joining the University of Sydney in 1986, she has advanced through various academic roles, including as Head of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, and currently directs the Centre for IoT and Telecommunications. Her career encompasses extensive research, teaching, and industry consulting in telecommunications.
A globally recognized leader in wireless communications, coding theory, and IoT systems, Professor Vucetic has fundamentally shaped modern wireless technologies. Her seminal contributions include pioneering developments in turbo codes and space-time coding, which underpin contemporary telecommunications systems. Notable publications include the authoritative books 'Space-Time Coding' (2003, co-authored with Jinhong Yuan) and 'Turbo Codes: Principles and Applications' (2000, co-authored with Jinhong Yuan), alongside over 900 peer-reviewed papers. With more than 30,500 citations on Google Scholar, her work has profoundly influenced the field, enabling advancements in 5G, 6G, and reliable low-latency networks. Professor Vucetic's excellence is evidenced by prestigious honors such as the Australian Laureate Fellowship (2017), Fellowship of the Australian Academy of Science (2017), Fellowship of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (2015), CSIRO Eureka Prize for Leadership in Innovation (2019), IEEE Fellow, and IEEE Life Fellow. She has secured substantial research funding and leads major projects on next-generation wireless networks. Additionally, she serves on editorial boards and professional committees, contributing to the advancement of telecommunications engineering.
