William (Bill) Hill serves as Professor of Media Arts and Executive Director of the STEAM Institute at Jacksonville University, where he fosters interdisciplinary academic collaboration and implements strategic initiatives in partnership with faculty, deans, and the Office of Academic Affairs. With more than 30 years of academic experience, he has occupied key leadership positions including Academic Dean, Chair of the Faculty Planning & Budget Committee, Financial Liaison, and Chair of the Department of Media Arts. Hill holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Electronic Intermedia from the University of Florida and a Bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of North Florida. Among his honors are the Faculty Excellence Award in University Service, a University Academy of Scholars Grant funded in part by the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, and multiple grants for educational infrastructure and research, including one from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund to investigate electronic media learning methodologies.
Hill's research investigates the evolution of technology and its influence on perceptions of nature and self, employing interactive media to explore the co-evolution of humans, machines, nature, and culture while promoting active engagement, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. His artwork has been exhibited internationally at the Thailand New Media Art Festival in Bangkok, Thailand; VAD 2003 Festival in Girona, Spain; V Salon Internacional de Arte Digital in Havana, Cuba; PixxelPoint international exhibition in Slovenia; Siggraph Annual International Conferences; and numerous galleries and museums throughout the United States. Publications featuring his work appear in Computer Arts, Exposure, Leonardo, and the book Art, Technology, Consciousness: Mind @ Large. He has presented at conferences including Siggraph, College Art Association, International Symposium on the Arts in Society, International Conference on Computer, Communication and Control Technologies, Consciousness Reframed at the Centre for Advanced Inquiry in the Interactive Arts, International Society of Electronic Arts, AAC&U’s 2023 Conference on Transforming STEM Higher Education with “Empathic Convergence,” and the 16th annual International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation with “INNOVATIONAL CONVERGENCE EDUCATIONAL MODELS.”Upcoming presentations include “Convergence Models in STEAM” at AMPS conference, and exhibitions at the International Digital Media and Arts Association’s WILD MEDIA Conference.
