Dr. Bill DuVall serves as Professor of Psychology, Dean of the Geneva Casebolt College of Arts and Social Sciences, and Executive Director of the Blair Center for Training and Pastoral Health at Southwest Baptist University, where he has been on the faculty since 2015. Previously, he worked as a Professional Counselor at Trinity Family Counseling Services from 2008 to 2015, MSC Missionary at Deep Creek Lake Resort Ministries from 2007 to 2015, Worship Leader at Deep Creek Baptist Church from 2007 to 2015, Teaching Fellow at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary from 2005 to 2007, and Associate Pastor at Rock Creek Road Baptist Church from 2000 to 2005. DuVall holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and Counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, with a dissertation entitled "Faith from our Fathers? A Study of the Relationship between Childhood Father Involvement and Adult Faith Maturity"; a Th.M. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; an M.A. in Christian Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; and a B.S. in Mathematics from Frostburg State University.
DuVall's research specializations encompass faith development and faith identity, the relationship between childhood father involvement and adult faith maturity, biblical perspectives on coping with anxiety, counseling clients who do not know Jesus, and the sufficiency of Scripture in counseling. Key publications include “Beyond the Faith: Counseling Clients Who Don’t Know Jesus” and “A Reconsideration of Faith Development: Faith Identity” in Soul & Spirit, and "A Biblical Perspective on Coping with Anxiety" in Transformation (2013). He has delivered presentations such as "Quantifying Faith Identity" at the Christian Association for Psychological Studies International Conference (2022), "Sufficiency of Scripture as Applied to Counseling" (2020), and "Faith States: A Dynamic Theory of Faith Development" at the American Association of Christian Counselors World Conference (2015). His awards include the Orien B. Hendrex Distinguished Teacher Award (2020) and Faculty Life Beautiful Award (2021) at Southwest Baptist University. DuVall has held roles as Co-Advisor for the SBU Psi Chi chapter (2015-2023) and Assistant Track Coordinator for the 2014 Christian Association for Psychological Studies International Conference, and is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, Christian Association for Psychological Studies, Psi Chi, National Board for Certified Counselors, and Society for Christian Psychology.
