Associate Professor Belinda Gibbons serves as Interim Dean and Head of School of the School of Business and Discipline Leader for Management at the University of Wollongong, within the Faculty of Arts, Society and Business. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Wollongong in 1997 and has progressed through roles including Lecturer in Management at the Sydney Business School and Senior Lecturer. Gibbons specializes in advancing sustainability education in business studies, responsible management, and the integration of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into higher education curricula. Her research explores leadership dynamics, such as emotional Machiavellianism, upper echelon influences on sustainability practices, and innovative teaching methods like digital service learning and WikiRate projects.
Gibbons has demonstrated substantial leadership in responsible management education, chairing the Australia and New Zealand Chapter of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) from 2016 to 2021, which expanded signatories by 37% to 39 institutions and achieved 'Established Chapter' status. She organized annual forums, state-based working groups, and contributed to the 2020 PRME Global Forum. In recognition of her efforts, she received the 2022 Green Gown Awards Australasia Sustainability Champion – Staff award. Gibbons initiated the #ACT4SDG student challenge in 2018, engaging over 200 students and leading to the elective course BUS 200 Innovation for Global Goals. She fosters community partnerships with Healthy Cities Illawarra, influencing local council SDG plans and a 2019 Senate inquiry, and collaborates with iAccelerate on SDG-infused startup programs. Gibbons participates in international panels, such as the ASEAN Australia Education Dialogue, and delivers masterclasses on SDGs.
