Beck O’Shaughnessy is a Research Adviser at the University of Otago, based in the Research and Enterprise Office on the Wellington campus. In this role, O’Shaughnessy offers advisory support to researchers across several departments, including the Dean’s Department, Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Women’s Health, Primary Health Care and General Practice, Public Health, and Surgery and Anaesthesia. Notably, as the ITC New Zealand Administrator for the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project, contributions included managing the Wave 1 (Second Cohort) technical report in December 2017. Team members listed O’Shaughnessy alongside principal investigators from the Department of Public Health, University of Otago, Wellington, and collaborators from University of Waterloo. O’Shaughnessy provided administrative support for the 2017 report "Achieving Smokefree Aotearoa by 2025," led by Professor George Thomson of the Department of Public Health, University of Otago, Wellington. This comprehensive document assessed evidence and feasibility for achieving a smokefree New Zealand by 2025, involving Hāpai Te Hauora team. Additional involvement encompasses contributions to findings from the ITC New Zealand Survey on topics such as smoking and quitting in social networks among indigenous and non-indigenous smokers (2018), and hardening among indigenous and non-indigenous smokers (2018). Furthermore, O’Shaughnessy is acknowledged in the University of Otago's Brief Submission on Revision of the Abortion Law (May 2018), affiliated with Department of Public Health, University of Otago, Wellington.
