Dr. B. V. R. Ravi Kumar serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Vallurupalli Nageswara Rao Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology (VNRVJIET). His academic background includes an AMIE from the Institution of Engineers (India) in 1996, an M.Tech in Design and Production Engineering from NIT Warangal in 1998, and a Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad in 2007. With over 25 years of teaching experience, he has held progressive roles including Professor at VNRVJIET since 2009 (with a return in 2017 after serving as Principal and Professor at NSRIT from 2015 to 2017), Associate Professor at B V Raju Institute of Technology from 2004 to 2008, and earlier positions at the same institute and others starting from 1998. He is a life member of the Indian Welding Society, Institution of Engineers (India), Society for Aerospace Quality and Reliability, and Indian Society for Technical Education.

Dr. Ravi Kumar's research focuses on welding technologies, particularly Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Friction Stir Welding, and TIG welding of dissimilar alloys such as aluminum and stainless steel. He has published 82 papers, including 42 in international journals and 24 at international conferences. Key publications include 'Experimental study on pulsed and non-pulsed current TIG welding of stainless steel sheet (SS304)' (2013), 'Experimental study on the effect of welding parameters and tool pin profiles on the IS: 65032 aluminum alloy FSW joints' (2017), and 'Optimization of surface roughness and tool wear in sustainable dry turning of Iron based Nickel A286 alloy using Taguchi’s method' (2020). He has guided 13 B.Tech project batches, 9 M.Tech theses, two Ph.D. students to award (2017 and 2019), and two ongoing Ph.D. supervisions. Dr. Ravi Kumar has secured three sponsored research projects totaling over Rs. 33 lakhs on Friction Stir Welding and related investigations, and established the Centre of Excellence in Joining Technology in the department. He currently coordinates the Career Development Centre and serves as a member of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell at VNRVJIET.
