Dr. B. Umadevi serves as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry at G. Venkataswamy Naidu College (Autonomous), Kovilpatti, a position she has held while contributing to the institution since her appointment on February 3, 1997. With academic qualifications including M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D., her subject specialization lies in Inorganic Bio-Chemistry, complemented by a dedicated research area in Crystallography. She has authored six international research papers and one national research paper, advancing knowledge in her fields of expertise. Dr. Umadevi has actively participated in professional development through attendance at one conference, eight seminars, seven workshops, three training programs, one orientation program, and two refresher courses. Her administrative acumen is evident in her roles as Convener of the Curriculum Development Cell (CDC), member of the Finance Committee, Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), Academic Council, and as the Senior Most Teacher on the Governing Body. Additionally, she has functioned as convener or member in various UGC-sponsored national-level training programs organized under the college principal.
In departmental activities during 2023-2024, Dr. Umadevi guided first-year undergraduate students during orientation on June 19, 2023, detailing course structure, curriculum design, mandatory credits, and involvement in campus clubs such as Nature Club, Quiz Club, NSS, Sports Club, Yoga Club, YRC, and Red Ribbon Club. She participated in a two-day state-level technical workshop on Intellectual Property Rights on July 21-22, 2023, a faculty development program on NAAC accreditation and SSR preparation on December 9, 2023, and delivered an address at a one-day workshop on Cheminformatics on January 9, 2024, discussing challenges, opportunities, and pharmaceutical applications. Furthermore, she presided over an awareness meeting on TNPSC Group IV exam preparation, led an environmental protection awareness rally focusing on sustainable living and biodiversity conservation, and delivered a presidential address at a food safety and hygiene awareness program on February 21, 2024, stressing community education on these vital topics. Through these engagements, Dr. Umadevi fosters academic excellence, student development, and community outreach at the college.
