Associate Professor Tetsuhiro Kidokoro serves as Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the School of Allied Health and Human Performance within the College of Health at Adelaide University. He is also Associate Professor in the Faculty of Sport Science at Nippon Sport Science University, where he has held positions since 2021, advancing from Assistant Professor. Kidokoro obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in Education from the Division of Health and Sport Education at Tokyo Gakugei University in 2017. Prior to this, he earned a Master of Science in Sport Science from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom in 2013 and a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science from Juntendo University in Japan in 2012. His professional trajectory includes roles such as Research Fellow at the National Center for Child Health and Development since 2025, Research Fellow at the Physical Fitness Research Institute of Meiji Yasuda Life Foundation of Health and Welfare from 2020 to 2021, Lecturer at International Christian University from 2018 to 2020, and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Juntendo University from 2017 to 2018. Additionally, he maintains a Visiting Researcher position at Juntendo University's Faculty of Health and Sports Science since 2018.
Kidokoro's research specialty lies in physical activity epidemiology, with a primary focus on children's physical activity, health promotion, and long-term trends in youth fitness derived from Japan's national physical fitness surveillance data. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles published in prominent international journals. Notable publications include 'Physical fitness before and during the COVID-19 pandemic: Results of annual national physical fitness surveillance among 16,647,699 Japanese children and adolescents between 2013 and 2021' (Journal of Sport and Health Science, 2023), 'International norms for adult handgrip strength: A systematic review of data on 2.4 million adults aged 20 to 100+ years from 69 countries and regions' (Journal of Sport and Health Science, 2024), 'The Youth Fitness International Test (YFIT) battery for monitoring and surveillance among children and adolescents' (Journal of Sport and Health Science, 2024), and 'Top 10 international priorities for physical fitness research and surveillance among children and adolescents: A twin-panel Delphi study' (Sports Medicine, 2023). His contributions have influenced global fitness research through collaborations across Australia, Kenya, and Asia. Kidokoro has received prestigious honors, including the Young Investigator Award (1st place, Mini-Oral category) from the European College of Sport Science in 2015, the Best Paper Award from the Japanese Society of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine in 2018, and the Excellent Research Award from the Sasakawa Sports Foundation in 2020. He holds editorial positions as Editor for the Journal of Exercise Science & Fitness since 2022, Book Review Editor for Pediatric Exercise Science since 2023, and Editor for the International Journal of Sport and Health Science since 2023. Furthermore, he participates in committees such as the Sasakawa Sports Foundation Sports Life Survey Committee since 2022 and serves as Secretary for the Japanese Society for Growth and Development since 2023.
