Asli Ozgun-Koca, Ph.D., is Professor of Mathematics Education in the Teacher Education Division of the College of Education at Wayne State University. She holds a B.S. in Mathematics Education from Hacettepe University, Turkiye (1993), an M.S. in Mathematics from Middle East Technical University, Turkiye (1996), and a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from The Ohio State University (2001). Her teaching portfolio includes courses such as MAE 1000: Detroit by the Numbers, MAE 5150: Methods and Materials of Instruction for Secondary School Mathematics, MAE 7200: Advanced Studies in Teaching Statistics and Probability, and MAE 7250: Advanced Studies in Teaching Algebra. Ozgun-Koca's research specializations include mathematics education, technology use in mathematics education, mathematics teacher education, professional development, teacher learning, lesson study, and applications in middle and secondary school settings.
She has earned notable awards including the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2015), College of Education Faculty Research Award (2014), and Career Development Chair Award (2013). Ozgun-Koca has secured funding for significant projects such as the NSF grants for Student Success Through Evidence-Based Pedagogies (SSTEPs, 2015-2021) and Noyce Mathematics Fellows TeachDETROIT (2015-2021), as well as state initiatives like REALM: Realizing Equity and Achievement for Learning Mathematics (2016-2018) and IMPRINT: Improving Proportional Reasoning Instruction through eNgineering Tasks (2013-2016).
