Rate My Professor Arum Kim

Dr. Arum Kim is a Lecturer in Korean Studies in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Western Australia, where she coordinates the Korean Studies course. She has led teaching, research, and various projects at universities and research institutions across Korea, China, and Australia. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor in the Centre of Foreign Language and Culture at BNU-HKBU United International College in China, where she coordinated the Korean language and culture program from 2017 to 2022 and directed the Centre from 2017 to 2021. Dr. Kim's research specializations encompass second language acquisition, multimedia language learning, effects of individual learner differences on second language acquisition, AI literacy, use of AI in language learning, language education, language learners' motivation, language literacies and discourse, AI literacy in language education, foreign language education and second language acquisition, technology-enhanced language learning, learner variables in second language acquisition, communication in intercultural and multilingual contexts, and cultural and linguistic identities of ethnic minority groups.

Dr. Kim has produced 27 research outputs, including 14 journal articles, 12 conference presentations, and one article in a specialist publication. Key publications include 'How implementing an AI chatbot impacts Korean as a foreign language learners' willingness to communicate in Korean' (2024), 'When AI Joined the Writing Class: Translingual Practice of Korean Language Learners in an Australian University' (2025), 'The Art of Asking: Prompt Literacy in AI-Mediated Korean Writing' (2026), 'Beyond the Basics: Analyzing the Evolution of Prompt Literacy in KFL Learners’ ChatGPT-Assisted Writing' (2025), 'Christmas is just a month away now: maybe don’t trust AI for gift ideas' (2025), and 'Always Ready to Assist, But Can You Inquire Correctly?' (2024). She has received the President Award of Teaching in May 2020 and the Best Paper Award in May 2019.
