About Aric

Aric Rindfleisch is a prominent scholar in Business & Economics with a distinguished career in marketing academia. He earned his PhD in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1998, an MBA from Cornell University in 1990, and a BS in Management from Central Connecticut State University in 1987. His professional journey began as Assistant Professor of Marketing at The University of Arizona from 1997 to 2002, where he served on the Marketing Department Recruiting Committee Chair in 2001 and the Eller College Extracurricular Policy Committee in 2000. During this period, he received the AMA Outstanding Marketing Teacher Award in 2002 and the Levine Family Faculty Fellow award from 2000 to 2002. Following Arizona, Rindfleisch advanced through positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, including Associate Professor (2004-2008), Professor (2008-2011), Department Chair (2010-2012), and McManus-Bascum Professor (2011-2012). He also held visiting and research roles at Tilburg University (2005-2006) and Korea University (2008-2013). Currently, he is the John M. Jones Professor of Marketing, Professor of Business Administration, Area Chair of Marketing (2018-2024), and Executive Director of the Illinois MakerLab (since 2016) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Gies College of Business, having served as Department Head from 2012 to 2016.

Rindfleisch's research focuses on materialism and consumer well-being, transaction cost theory, new product development and alliances, innovation, 3D printing and digital manufacturing, the sharing economy, and marketing in a digital world. Key publications include the highly cited 'Transaction Cost Analysis: Past, Present, and Future Applications' (Journal of Marketing, 1997), 'Materialism and Well-Being: A Conflicting Values Perspective' (Journal of Consumer Research, 2002), 'Cross-Sectional versus Longitudinal Survey Research' (Journal of Marketing Research, 2008), and 'Marketing in the Sharing Economy' (Journal of Marketing, 2019), as well as books such as Marketing in a Digital World (2019) and chapters on brand remixing and environmental sustainability. His work has earned awards including AMA Fellow (2026-present), Vernon Zimmerman Faculty Fellow (2019-2024), Vithala R. Rao Award (2022), Excellence in Online & Distance Teaching (2022), Teaching and Learning Faculty Innovation Scholar (2023), Best Associate Editor Award for Journal of Supply Chain Management (2008), and recognition as one of The Best 300 Professors in America by The Princeton Review. Rindfleisch has contributed as faculty to multiple AMA Doctoral Consortiums (2000, 2007, 2008, 2016, 2017) and ACR Doctoral Symposiums (2001, 2002, 2004, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017).
