Ann Jessup

Ann Jessup, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, served as Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2007 to 2021. She is designated as Special Appointed Regular Graduate Faculty, contributing to graduate education advising and activities. As Coordinator of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program, she supported the training of advanced practice nurses in primary care. Ann Jessup's academic interests and research specializations focus on diabetes prevention and management, pediatric obesity, dysglycemia risk factors, and cardiovascular health promotion in children. She contributed to the multicenter HEALTHY study, a National Institutes of Health-funded trial targeting type 2 diabetes risk reduction in middle school students via school-based interventions. Key publications include "The Pediatric Obesity Initiative: Development, implementation, and evaluation" (2013), "The Association Between Acanthosis Nigricans and Dysglycemia in an Ethnically Diverse Group of Eighth Grade Students" (2013), "Student public commitment in a school-based diabetes prevention project: Impact on physical health and health behavior" (2011), "A School-Based Intervention for Diabetes Risk Reduction" (2010), and "Promotion of Cardiovascular Health in Children by Nurse Practitioners and Physicians in Family Practice" (1996). Additional contributions encompass cancer survivorship care implications for primary care advanced practice nurses (2013) and chairing a DNP project on culturally tailored self-management education for African American adults with type II diabetes in faith-based frameworks.
