Dr. Angela C. Weaver serves as Assistant Professor of Counseling and Chair of the Department of Counseling at Charleston Southern University, having joined the faculty in 2019. A native of Summerville, South Carolina, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Clemson University. She then completed a Master of Education in school counseling at The Citadel and worked for six years as an elementary school counselor in Charleston County public schools, where she provided individual and group counseling to children. Dr. Weaver pursued advanced studies, earning a PhD in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. This degree equipped her with an in-depth understanding of integrating the Christian worldview and theology into psychology and the clinical counseling process. Her dissertation research focused on eating disorders, emotional regulation, adult attachment, and attachment to God.
Dr. Weaver has been a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina since 2009 and holds credentials as a Licensed Professional Counselor/Supervisor. She maintained a clinical practice for ten years before transitioning to full-time academic work. At Charleston Southern University, she teaches students how to integrate and grow their faith while learning psychological concepts and counseling skills. As Department Chair, she oversees the Counseling Department. She also serves as Program Chair for the Doctor of Counselor Education and Supervision PhD program, a highly selective initiative enrolling up to 12 students per year, requiring 60 credit hours with an embedded dissertation, and preparing graduates to lead with wisdom, competence, and Christian character. Additionally, she is involved with the CACREP-accredited Master of Science in Clinical Counseling program. Dr. Weaver chose to work at CSU for its emphasis on faith-integrated education in counseling and psychology.
