Professor Anasua Guharay is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. She earned her Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, from 2004 to 2008. She then pursued advanced studies at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, obtaining a Master of Technology in Geotechnical Engineering from 2009 to 2011 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Geotechnical Engineering from 2011 to 2014. Her academic background has positioned her as a leading expert in geotechnical engineering applications.
Guharay's career trajectory includes her current role as Associate Professor at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus since June 2021, following her tenure as Assistant Professor there from July 2015 to May 2021. She also served as Cross-Appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Hiroshima University, Japan, from March 2021 to March 2023. Earlier, she was Assistant Professor at Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune, from December 2014 to May 2015. Her research specializations include alkali activated binder treatment for natural geotextiles, earth retaining structures, reliability applications in geotechnical engineering, sensitivity analysis, slope stabilization with treated natural geotextiles and grass, stabilization of expansive clays, utilization of biochar for soft soil improvement, and utilization of waste materials for ground improvement. She has led funded projects such as the DST-SERB project on 'Performance Evaluation of Construction and Demolition Waste as Stone Column Material for Improving Bearing Capacity of Soft Soil' and investigations into treatment processes for cellulose-based geotextiles. Key publications encompass 'Reliability-Based Analysis of Cantilever Sheet Pile Walls Backfilled with Different Soil Types Using the Finite-Element Approach' (2015), 'Stabilization of expansive clay by fibre-reinforced alkali-activated binder' (2021), 'Influence of in-house produced biochar on geotechnical properties of expansive clay' (2020), and she is editor of 'Climate Change Effects on Infrastructure: Advanced Tools for Monitoring, Mitigation, and Lifecycle Optimization' (2025). Her scholarly impact is evidenced by over 1,218 citations and an h-index of 19 on Google Scholar. Guharay is an Associate Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a Life Member of the Indian Geotechnical Society.
