Alick Kay serves as a Lecturer in organisational behaviour and management in the School of Management, College of Business and Law, at Adelaide University. He earned an MBA and BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Adelaide. A registered psychologist with over 30 years in tertiary education, he has designed and taught 12 courses in recent years, directed programs for 15 years at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and taught internationally in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia for a decade, alongside City West campus duties. His teaching emphasizes organisational behaviour and management. Earlier, he managed a business in recruitment, selection, and career counseling, and consulted on organisational change, presenting to mining and health sectors. International roles include work with a UK oil company and Scandinavian consultants in Eastern Europe.
He helped initiate the School of Management's executive partners program via a visit to William & Mary College, USA, enabling student exchanges. Current research explores creativity and space. (2011), "Towards an understanding of the precursors of effective leadership," European Journal of Management; Kay (2006), "Promoting tourism through popular music," Tourism, Culture and Communication; Patrickson & Kay (1987), "Problems of Sampling Early Retirees," Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources. Other works encompass book chapters like "Suicide, metal music and expectancy theory" (2011) and conference papers. Presentations span OB teaching conferences in the US, Italy, New Zealand, and global management forums. He was inaugural executive member of the International Society for Metal Music Studies.
