Prof. Alex O. Akpodiete is an adjunct professor of cybersecurity and computer forensics at Curtin University Dubai. Possessing over 20 years of expertise in technology governance, regulatory risk management, cybersecurity, digital forensics, and artificial intelligence, he currently serves as CEO of Atawa Technologies & Training Institute, founded in 2015, where he develops trustworthy AI solutions and delivers specialized training. Akpodiete earned his Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Miami School of Law and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), while pursuing doctoral studies in cybersecurity leadership. His professional certifications include Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP), ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Security+, and CompTIA Cloud Essentials, among others.
Akpodiete's academic appointments span multiple institutions, including adjunct professorships at Mount St. Mary's University in the Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Human Services Department, University of Bolton, Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, and Curtin University Dubai. He teaches courses on cybersecurity, computer forensics, data security, and cloud security, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches. His research focuses on cybersecurity, digital forensics, artificial intelligence, AI law and governance, and emerging technologies including the metaverse, NFTs, 6G, IoT, machine learning, drones, and hybrid warfare. On Google Scholar, he is affiliated with Mount St. Mary's University and has 40 citations. Key publications include "The 5th Industrial Revolution & Cybersecurity: Implications of Metaverse, NFT, 6G, IoT, AI, Machine Learning, Drones, & Hybrid Warfare" (2024), "AI & the Future of Digital Forensics" (2023), and "Teaching Cybersecurity as an Interdisciplinary Program." He authored the book "Seven Open Secrets of Success" (2009) and articles such as "Reconciling Plaintiff’s Choice to Sue in State Court with Defendant’s Desire to Defend in Federal Court" (Florida Bar Journal, 1995), alongside recent works on AI arms races, quishing threats, and metaverse governance (2025-2026).
