Associate Professor Ajibade Aibinu serves in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne, holding the position of Associate Professor in Quantity Surveying/Cost Management and Construction Economics within the Melbourne School of Design. He earned his BSc and MSc degrees in Quantity Surveying from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, followed by a PhD in Construction Project Management from the National University of Singapore. Aibinu joined the University of Melbourne in 2006 after serving as a research scholar at the National University of Singapore. Between 2013 and 2017, he acted as Assistant Dean for Research Training at the Melbourne School of Design. He is a Member of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and was previously an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators from 2008 to 2013.
Aibinu's research specializations include design economics, cost management encompassing life cycle costing, cost modelling, risk management, dispute resolution, building information modelling, and artificial intelligence applications for construction cost prediction. He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed articles and books, with prominent publications such as 'The effects of construction delays on project delivery in Nigerian construction industry' (2002, International Journal of Project Management, 1377 citations), 'Construction delays and their causative factors in Nigeria' (2006, Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, 685 citations), 'Critical evaluation of off-site construction research: A Scientometric analysis' (2018, Automation in Construction, 777 citations), and 'Using PLS-SEM technique to model construction organizations' willingness to participate in e-bidding' (2010, Automation in Construction, 463 citations). He founded the Intelligent Cost Manager, a cloud-based AI tool leveraging historical data for precise cost estimates. Aibinu has served as Lead Guest Editor for a special issue on data analytics in construction for the Built Environment Project and Asset Management journal. His scholarship has amassed over 5,794 citations on Google Scholar. Awards include the Melbourne School of Design Teaching Excellence Award in 2012 and the Outstanding Paper Award from the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence in 2017 for a co-authored paper, along with the Best Reviewer Award.
