She evaluated "A Short Handbook for Writing Essays in the Humanities and Social Sciences," describing it as an approachable primer for novice essayists and a reminder of standard academic writing practices for experienced writers. The review praises the handbook's concise outline of the essay writing process, including analyzing texts, developing a thesis, organizing evidence, crafting coherent paragraphs, and revising. Bernard noted the clarity and relevance of the examples, the encouraging yet non-condescending tone, and recommended incorporating more diverse examples from various humanities disciplines.
