Dr. A. Shobha Rani serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at BMS Institute of Technology and Management (BMSIT), Bengaluru. She obtained her Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Electronics and Communication Engineering from MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology in 2000, followed by a Master of Technology (M.Tech) from the same institution in 2005. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Kuvempu University in 2016. Prior to her doctoral studies, her professional journey led her to BMSIT, where she joined as an Associate Professor in the ECE department in 2016 and has since progressed to her current leadership role, as evidenced by her inclusion in the Academic Council as Professor and HoD for 2024-25 to 2026-27.
Dr. Rani's academic interests center on computer networks and wireless sensor networks. Her research contributions include 17 journal articles, 2 book chapters, and 3 conference proceedings published between 2013 and 2024, accumulating 13 citations with an h-index of 2. Notable publications encompass “Hierarchical Clustering Based Routing Technique for Homogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks” (2017, IEEE International Conference), co-authored with G.H. Raghunandan; “Gateway Based Hybrid Hierarchical Routing Scheme with Time Synchronization in WSN,” with Raghunandan G.H.; “Buffer Based Routing Mechanism for Load Balancing in MANET” (International Journal of Civil Engineering and Technology, 2019); “Adaptive informant factor-based optimised channel allocation in large-scale mesh networks” (international journal); and “A novel approach to low-light image and video enhancement using a dual-branch transformer model” (Computers & Electrical Engineering, 2025). She has guided at least one Ph.D. dissertation, “Design and Development of Energy Efficient Hierarchical Routing Scheme using Data Aggregation and Time Synchronization for Wireless Sensor Network,” awarded to Raghunandhan G.H. in 2021 at BMSIT. Additionally, Dr. Rani is a life member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE, LM 58996 since 2008) and has contributed administratively as main coordinator for events such as Manthana, Techsanchalana, and the Disability Resource Centre in 2016. She serves as a research supervisor in the area of networking and has acted as a reviewer for international conferences like ICNEWS-2018.
