Summary The applicant will become a member of the Parkos-Nusrat and Collins research groups studying how the intestinal barrier is altered in people being treated for infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform experiments using a variety of state-of-the-art techniques involving leukocyte isolation, flow cytometry, cell transduction, epithelial cell physiology, cell culture, and molecular biology to generate data under the supervision of the principal investigators. The main goal of this work will be to increase understanding of molecular mechanisms of viral persistence in individuals with HIV that result in altered intestinal barrier function that may lead to better therapies. This position offers unique opportunities for ambitious individuals to work with a diverse group including technicians, graduate students, post-docs, and faculty.
