Job Description:
This position supports the Utah Center for Utah Health programs with a focus on the collegiate-level Health Scholars program, youth-level healthcare recruitment programs, specific grant and contract programs and other related programs conducted through the office, including health education. This is an 10 month contract position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists with the coordination of existing programs related to rural health. The position will require weekly travel to Utah cities including St. George and Cedar City, as well as other travel throughout the state.
2. Manages daily activities of the Health Scholars programs currently in place within four Utah higher education institutions. This includes, but is not limited to the management and teaching of undergraduate pre-health seminar courses, facilitating job shadowing opportunities, advising college students on course selection, providing guidance for graduate programs, and increasing program enrollment.
3. Provides marketing support to programs including, but not limited to internal and external communications, printed publications, electronic communication, public relations, websites, and social media.
4. Supervises student staff members, including hiring, training, and student development. May also recruit and provide guidance to student volunteers.
5. Assists with program assessment, including tracking and analysis methods used to measure outcomes and outputs of programs.
6. Develops program plans and related budgets. Assists with contracts and agreements to meet program objectives.
7. Assists in planning long and short range program objectives and activities.
8. May coordinate and oversee hiring instructors and students, reserving campus spaces, managing lending library, and program accounts.
9. Plan and facilitate cultural immersion volunteer trips for pre-health college students to domestic and international locations with assistance of other staff members.
10. Participate in high school and college outreach including recruitment and retention activities, with a focus on assisting underserved students in gaining entrance to healthcare programs.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Required Qualifications-
1. Bachelor's degree.
2. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including presentations and public relations.
3. Technology skills including web, social media, computer applications and presentation programs.
4. Extensive experience working with university students, and/or rural health issues or related experience.
5. Strong work ethic and a demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
Preferred Qualifications-
1. Master's degree.
2. Experience in career counseling in the health sciences or equivalent.
3. Background in student affairs, counseling, or healthcare.
4. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
5. Familiarity with careers in healthcare.
6. Supervision experience.
