Description
Research position at the level of Postdoctoral Research Scientist is available at the Center for Radiological Research (CRR.columbia.edu) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York to investigate the effect of acute high-dose radiation exposure on the gut microbiome and its impact on gastrointestinal (GI) tract injury. We have developed an orally administered radiomitigator that is specifically targeted to the mucosal surface of the GI tract to potentially alleviate the deleterious effects of radiation in animal models. The major focus of this research study will be to perform longitudinal structural and functional studies to determine the impact of radiation, on GI architectural integrity, commensal gut microbiota composition and diversity, and microbiome-host interactions after drug treatment/irradiation using conventional and human gnotobiotic mouse models, flow cytometry, and ELISA-based assays. Additionally, mechanistic studies will be performed...
