The Opportunity: Earth Observations (EO) from space capture immensely valuable measurements of the climate of the UK and worldwide. EO data are complex and transforming these measurements into information usable for world-class science, climate services and enhanced policymaking is challenging, scientifically and technically. The UK Earth Observation Climate Information Service (EOCIS) will address this challenge end-to-end, demonstrating a resilient “UK climate data supply chain” for the first time, built on a strong, continuing heritage of research, data creation and national digital infrastructure. The Opportunity: As a PDRA, you will conduct experimental investigations on the geochemical processes involved in the geological storage of carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Your primary responsibilities will include: Experimental characterisation of geochemical reactivity of carbon dioxide and hydrogen with different subsurface reservoir, caprock, well cement and pure mineral samples at a range of storage temperatures and pressures. Determine mineral reaction rates if any reactions are observed during the experiments. Quantify potential caprock and reservoir integrity loss during hydrogen and carbon dioxide storage. Undertake geochemical modelling using PHREEQC to support the experimental results. Your work will be critical in the advancement of our understanding of the geological storage of carbon dioxide and hydrogen. The School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh invites applications for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in  Ecology . The position is an open-ended contract with an expected start date in summer 2023. The level of appointment for the position will be determined by the selection panel.
