Description The laboratory of Kate Hong, PhD, at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a postdoctoral associate to study sensory-guided behavior in mice. The Hong Lab (www.thehonglab.com) studies neural mechanisms underlying tactile and multi-sensory-guided behavior. The lab uses animal behavior, optogenetics, multi-area in vivo electrophysiology, and computational modeling tools to study information flow between cortical and subcortical brain areas that mediate behavior. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on several projects, e.g. (i) Cortical modulation of subcortical sensory areas during tactile perception; (ii) neural mechanisms for hypersensitivity in models of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Description The Department of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University has an open position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometry to measure gas-phase peroxy radicals as part of the CLOUD Collaboration at CERN. The position involves laboratory design and calibration of an inlet to modify gas-phase samples to convert radical species into stable molecules that can be measured by suitable chemical ionization reactants as well as deployment to CERN in Geneva, Switzerland for annual measurement campaigns, typically lasting 2-3 months each Fall.
