Doctoral position: Respiratory dysfunction - mechanisms and influence on performance and quality of life (m/f/d)
ATH Zurich ETH Zürich Hauptgebäude, Rämistrasse, Zürich, Switzerland
In the Exercise Physiology Lab of the Institute of Human Movement Sciences and Sport at ETH Zurich, a new doctoral position is to be filled with immediate effect. project background Breathing and its control is an important factor in human performance. The control and function of the respiratory muscles play an important role here. This is evident in patients with pulmonary, cardiac or neuromuscular diseases, after mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit, and often also in non-hospitalized patients after COVID-19 illness. The aim of the current National Fund project is to better understand the connections between respiratory muscle function, respiratory control, performance and quality of life. Job Description In this project, you design studies that include both experimental investigations in the laboratory and telemonitored training. The aim is to improve respiratory regulation and performance reduction as a result of COVID-19...

PhD position: Ovarian Follicle Growth Dynamics: 3D Colored Power Doppler Imaging in Heifers (PROSPECT-study)
ATH Zurich ETH Zürich Hauptgebäude, Rämistrasse, Zürich, Switzerland
ETH Zurich is one of the world’s leading universities specializing in science and technology. At the Institute of Agricultural Science, the  Animal Physiology Group  addresses challenges including new approaches for studying reproductive physiology using livestock and wildlife species models. Project background Ultrasound technologies  are routinely used both in fertility clinics and in veterinary diagnostics. More recent 3D and 4D approaches coupled with colored doppler ultrasonography applications including colored Power doppler for blood flow estimation in small vessels are developing. Human and bovine follicle maturation processes largely share similarities. Using cattle as model for human follicle growth dynamics, the goal of this interdisciplinary project is to improve the outcome of ovarian hormonal stimulation. At the Institute of Agricultural Science, the  Animal Physiology Group  addresses challenges in the study of embryomaternal communication and the application of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in livestock and wildlife. Project background Assisted reproductive technologies usage in pigs is still underdeveloped due to the challenging female anatomy of the reproductive tract and compromised embryo survival rates. The current practices are lacking practical and non-laborious methods for producing piglets using ART. This project aims to develop a feasible embryo production (EP) scheme in pigs that allow the use of sows of high genetic merit. Job description The study  partially funded by Federal Agency for Agriculture (Bundesamt für Landwirtschaft, BLW) comprises a cooperation approach between ETH Zurich, SUISAG...
