Research Assistant / Research Associate: Developing THz in-plane photoelectric detectors (Fixed Term)
Cambridge University Cambridge University Botanic Garden, Brookside, Cambridge, UK
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance. A position exists for a Research Assistant/Research Associate in developing THz in-plane photoelectric detectors, as part of a new five year EPSRC funded Programme Grant, "TeraCom: Terahertz frequency devices and systems for ultrahigh capacity wireless communications". The aim of the role is to develop the photo-electric tunable step (PETS) THz detector to GHz speeds of operation. The PETS detector was pioneered by the Semiconductor Physics Group in a GaAs/AlGaAs 2D device, which demonstrated over one order of magnitude higher photo-response than classical THz detectors. Device performance was not RF-optimised (limited by RC time constants), so the main goals aims are to develop a larger responsivity bandwidth product with Johnson noise-limited sensitivity. Higher temperature of operation will be achieved later in the project by translating this device concept to the Nitride material system....
