Postdoctoral Research Associate (microfluidics)
University of Edinburgh (UoE) University of Edinburgh, Buccleuch Place, Newington, Edinburgh, UK
The Opportunity: Long-term infectious and inflammatory conditions, such as chronic rhinosinusitis, are a complex host-pathogen response that is often poorly understood because of the multi-scale nature of the interactions, and numerous physical and biological factors that are involved. This is an opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers located at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Cambridge to build new experimental and conceptual frameworks required to gain a predictive understanding of such complex systems. You will have the opportunity to build a “system” that will replicate the main features of chronic rhinosinusitis in a microfluidic device suitable for microscopy imaging by focusing on the anatomy of the host sinus cavity. You will also interact with other members of the team working on theoretical and computational approaches needed to both interpret experiments and extrapolate the findings. The success of this...

Post-Doctoral Research Associate: Carbon Dioxide and Hydrogen storage in subsurface porous rocks
University of Edinburgh (UoE) University of Edinburgh, Buccleuch Place, Newington, Edinburgh, UK
The Opportunity: As a PDRA, you will conduct experimental investigations on the geochemical processes involved in the geological storage of carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Your primary responsibilities will include: Experimental characterisation of geochemical reactivity of carbon dioxide and hydrogen with different subsurface reservoir, caprock, well cement and pure mineral samples at a range of storage temperatures and pressures. Determine mineral reaction rates if any reactions are observed during the experiments. Quantify potential caprock and reservoir integrity loss during hydrogen and carbon dioxide storage. Undertake geochemical modelling using PHREEQC to support the experimental results. Your work will be critical in the advancement of our understanding of the geological storage of carbon dioxide and hydrogen.
