Postdoc in in the development of immuno-competent blood-brain barrier organoids to investigate cerebral malaria at Centre for Medical Parasitology
The University of Copenhagen The University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Humanities, Karen Blixens Vej, Copenhagen Municipality, Denmark
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher with a strong interest in immunology and cell biology for a postdoctoral position (21 months) commencing 1st May. During cerebral malaria, the accumulation of infected red blood cells within the microvasculature leads to localized inflammation, disruption of the blood-brain barrier, and can lead to sudden, rapid swelling of the brain. Previous work by our group showed that infected red blood cells capable of utilizing both ICAM-1 and EPCR can selectively disrupt the blood-brain barrier and can enter endothelial cells. This discovery was facilitated using blood-brain barrier organoids, which mimic the blood-brain barrier. This project aims to further enhance the model by developing immune-competent organoids to investigate the impact  Plasmodium falciparum infected red blood cells have on these immune cells. To this aim, we are seeking and enthusiastic, motivated postdoc to join our team. The project is sponsored...

Postdoc position in Primary cilia and pH-regulatory ion transport proteins
The University of Copenhagen University of Copenhagen, Nørregade, Copenhagen, Denmark
Postdoc position in Primary cilia and pH-regulatory ion transport proteins Department of Biology Faculty of Science University of Copenhagen Description of the project Most cells in our body contain antenna-like structures on their surface called primary cilia, which are important for regulating cell-cell communication and thereby the development and function of our organs. Defects in cilia can lead to severe human diseases called ciliopathies, which often affect the kidneys. The aim of this project is to investigate how two pH-regulatory ion transporters, NBCn1 and NHE1, are targeted to the primary cilium of mammalian kidney cells, and how they regulate pH within the cilium. NBCn1 and NHE1 regulate essential processes in our cells and organs and their dysfunction is linked to diseases like cancer and hypertension, but it is not clear how they get localized to and function at cilia. Likewise, intraciliary pH and its possible effect on ciliary function are...
